Old Library Cornholme

AT THE HEART OF THE CORNHOLME COMMUNITY

Old Library Cornholme is a volunteer-led organisation set up in June 2020 at the height of the pandemic.

 It wasn't easy picking up from the previous team who had run a successful  venture  for several years.

Lockdown meant they could no longer open the building as a community cafe and run the other groups like a job club and  parent and toddler group which had been very popular.

Because we didn't want to see the building close permanently we took it over and achieved our first aim of keeping  the food bank going with additional resources from emergency government funding. That was summer 2020 . Since then we have been able to source additional help from organisations like Community Foundation For Calderdale, Todmorden Town Council, Calderdale Council plus individuals in the local community and beyond.

 When lockdown eased in autumn 2021, we were able to open the community cafe again every Monday for food bank users Thanks to continued financial  support , the food bank continues to thrive and we are there every week from 10.00  till 12 noon for anyone in Cornholme And Portsmouth who needs us . We provide a wide range (your choice) of tinned and dried foods as well as fresh fruit and veg , cheese, butter and eggs and frozen goods, Other essentials like sanitary products, shampoo and toothpaste  as well as pet food are also on offer.

Internet WiFi  access is available within the Old Library and tablets and a printer are also available.

HOW YOU CAN HELP ….

The Old Library is run by volunteers. We rely on grants and donations. We know times are very difficult for lots of people and we are seeing increasing numbers in need of our food drop in. We would be very grateful if you are able to help by making a regular payment, however small.

Our bank is the Unity Trust Bank sort code 60-83-01 and Account Number 20338192;

You can also do this by giving to “The Old Library Group” via the website www.localgiving.org.uk

Many thanks to CFFC who administer the payments to us.

PLEASE ALSO GET IN TOUCH IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN HELPING AS A VOLUNTEER!

New Ventures

The Old Library is now also home to a new women's group, Lionesses of the Valley, meeting every Thursday between 11 am and 1 pm. We have just completed a grant-funded refurbishment of the kitchen which we hope will enable us to open the community cafe more often, organise more special events and  run other initiatives like cookery workshops . So watch this space!
